MOVE-IN
Process
YOUR NEW HOME MOVE-IN CHECKLIST
Congratulations on your new home! Use this checklist to help make your move into the community as smooth as possible.
STEP 1 — COMPLETE YOUR LEASE AND PAPERWORK WITH THE OFFICE
- Review your lease and sign it — or, if a digital signing service was used, confirm your lease has already been signed.
- Complete any required forms, such as the tenant information form, pet indemnification form, and any others that apply.
- Set up your payment plan and decide how you’ll pay your rent going forward.
- Review your lease for the community’s rules on pets, parking, and vehicles, and follow them.
STEP 2 — START YOUR CITY OF CARLISLE UTILITIES
(WATER, SEWER, ELECTRIC & TRASH)
- Residents of Carlisle Estates purchase their electricity from the City of Carlisle. The City provides electric, sewer, garbage, and recycling to its residents.
- Service must be started in person at City Hall. Bring a valid photo ID and your service address.
- City Hall: 100 North First Street, Carlisle, IA 50047 • 515-989-3224
- A utility deposit is required. Amounts vary by address and are credited back to your account after 12 months of on-time payments.
- Deposit waiver: The deposit can be waived with a letter of credit from a previous provider showing 12 months of on-time electric payments. Email it to billing clerk Gabby Breheny (gbreheny@carlisleiowa.org).
- After-hours electric outage line: 515-961-6911
STEP 3 — REGISTER FOR MAIL AT THE CARLISLE POST OFFICE
- Visit the Carlisle Post Office at 200 S. 1st Street, Carlisle, IA 50047 (phone 515-989-3352) to register to receive mail at your new address.
- Request your mailbox key for the cluster mailboxes that serve the community.
- USPS website: usps.com — for change of address, hold mail, and PO box options.
STEP 4 — SET UP NATURAL GAS (ONLY IF YOUR HOME HAS IT)
- MidAmerican Energy: Residential 888-427-5632. Report a gas leak: 800-595-5325.
- MidAmerican website: midamericanenergy.com — start service and manage your account online.
- If your home is all-electric, you can skip this step.
STEP 5 — TRASH, RECYCLING & LARGE-ITEM PICKUP
- Collection day is TUESDAY — garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Have carts at the curb by 6:00 a.m. (or the night before).
- Collection is provided by Metro Waste Authority through the City of Carlisle.
- Missed pickup, cart issues, or questions: Metro Waste Authority – 515-244-0021
- Large items, extra trash, or appliances: schedule a pickup with Metro Waste Authority at 515-244-0021 (details at mwatoday.com).

- Update your address with your employer, bank, insurance, and subscriptions.
- Update your Iowa driver’s license/ID and voter registration.
- Mobile home owners policy: Purchase a mobile home owners policy before move-in (or transfer your existing one). It covers your home, personal belongings, and personal liability. Make sure it lists your correct lot/space address, and provide proof of coverage to the office if your lease requires it.
STEP 8 — GET TO KNOW YOUR NEW HOME
